Huawei’s Nova Watch Appears in Trademark Filing

Nova Watch appeared recently in a Chinese trademark filing. This suggests that Huawei could be planning to release a new smartwatch model. The Nova brand is usually for affordable smartphone. Recently, Huawei has also introduced two new smartwatch models, the Watch Fit and Watch GT 2 Pro. With the new naming, it is possible that Huawei is planning to take a new direction in its smartwatch business. Previous smartphone models under Nova brand are Nova 8, Nova 8 Pro and Nova 5T. This could mean that the Nova Watch will be a more affordable option than the current Huawei Watch GT series. It is possible that Huawei will continue to release a number of more affordable Nova smartwatch models. With the removal of Honor brand from Huawei’s portfolio, the Nova Watch could fill the gap. Honor smartwatches are no longer under the control of Huawei.

Huawei is popular for its great-looking devices and their wearables look nice as well. Its ultra-premium smartwatch is the Porsche Design Huawei Watch GT and the most affordable one is the Huawei Watch HT2e. For people that are looking for premium designs, the upcoming Nova Watch could share similar design principles. Huawei smartwatches have excellent battery life and the Watch GT 2 could operate for about one week with a single full charge. You can achieve this even after turning all tracking features. The competing smartwatches often have worse battery life. As an example, the Oppo Watch could run only one day with a full charge. It’s the same with numerous Wear OS smartwatches and Apple Watch models as well. If you are looking for a smartwatch with longer battery life, the recommendation is to choose smartwatch from Huawei. If you often do activities outdoor and don’t always have access to wall outlet, the Nova Watch could have similarly long battery life.

Huawei smartwatches are also quite good in terms of fitness tracking capability. These wearables have integrated exercise programs for golfing, walking, swimming and running. Other features include breathing exercises, stress measurement levels, SpO2 support, heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking. If the Nova Watch uses the same concept, it should have similarly capable fitness tracking features. If you are health-conscious, you will get consistent tracking about heart rate, calories expenditures and pace. The display of Huawei smartwatches is also bright and good enough. It should be quite superior when we compare these smartwatches with those with Wear OS. It won’t be too surprising if the upcoming Nova Watch will have VO2 Max tracking. As a standard feature, the Nova Watch should have support for iOS and Android devices. There are companion apps for both mobile operating systems to ensure proper pairing. You should be able to decide what you want to install. However, integration won’t be as deep as smartwatches with Watch OS or Wear OS, because Apple and Google make them, respectively. But, the lightweight operating system allows simpler operations and longer battery life. Current pairing features of Huawei smartwatches are adequate for casual users.
